Director
Cătălin ZAMFIR, Senior Researcher and Director of Research Institute for Quality of Life of the Romanian Academy, sociologist, Member of the Romanian Academy. Since 1990, member of expert commissions of the Council of Europe, European Union and UNICEF, UNDP. Participated in numerous national and international conferences. Re-established the Romanian Association of Sociologists (1990), being its president in the first period and re-elected in 2009. Founder of several academic journals, being their editor, at different moments: “Romanian Sociology” (the Journal of the Romanian Association of Sociologists) (1990), “Quality of Life” (ICCV. Romanian Academy) (1990); “Social Research” (1998 -2003), the online magazine “Social Innovation” (ICCV, Romanian Academy) (2009). Original scientific contributions in several fields: sociological theory and methodology, quality of life, social policies, social development design, social problems such as poverty, Roma population, children. Authored 19 books, edited 23 volumes, had a book translated abroad, co-authored 8 books, 20 publications abroad (most of them edited books). Author of a Dictionary of Sociology and an Encyclopaedia of Social Development, and 89 studies published in academic journals. Doctor Honoris Causa of the West University of Timisoara, and the universities of Craiova, Constanta, Oradea, and Targu Jiu.
