Simona Mihaiu

She graduated in 2010 from master’s courses, specialized in Social Deviance and Crime at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Assistance, University of Bucharest. In 2013 she obtained her sociology PhD at the same institution, with a thesis on violent crime. Between 2014-2015 Simona followed a program of postdoctoral studies, carried out within the Romanian Academy. She also attended training courses at Nicolaus Copernicus University (Poland, 2018) and Francisco de Vitoria University (Spain, 2019). She has 10 years of didactic activity in the sphere of sociology of deviance, at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Craiova. She has been involved in research and social intervention projects, coordinated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Justice, the World Bank, the European Commission, UNICEF and UNESCO. So far, she has collaborated with national and international non-governmental organizations active in the prevention of juvenile delinquency, domestic violence and human trafficking. Simona has published both in Romania (Violent crime. Social meanings and implications, Pro Universitaria, 2021; Causes of Violating Prisoners’ Right To a Decent Life. Romania in the European Context, Social Sciences and Education Research Review, 2019; Le modèle étiologique d’homicide, Romanian Sociology Review, 2013) and abroad (Aspects of Gender Inequality in Romania. Study on Sexual Violence, Addleton Academic Publishers 2018; Violent Crime in Romania. Estimation Etiology and Social Prevention, South-Est European Research Centre, 2012). She is a member of professional associations (Romanian Sociological Association, European Society of Criminology, International Sociological Association) and editorial committees (Journal of Romanian Sociology, Journal Comunicación y Hombre, Spain).
Areas of interest: domestic abuse and violence, delinquency and crime, human rights, social inclusion policies and demographic change.
